Use of EPC Gen 2 RFID Tags Closer Than You Think!
Zebra recently collaborated with Texas Instruments and ThingMagic to demonstrate EPC Gen 2 tags from Texas Instruments in a Zebra printer/encoder during the EPCglobal Fast Moving Consumer Goods Business Action Group meeting in Houston, Texas. Zebra is the only company to successfully demonstrate printer/encoder communication with Gen 2 inlays from several leading suppliers.

Announcing Zebra’s New ZPL Firmware. Zebra manufactures the industry’s most rugged, most reliable, and most preferred on-demand printing solutions. We work hard to continuously improve our products and services--and to find new ways to help our customers’ businesses grow. With that in mind, we have introduced new firmware in nine of our printer models as of September 1, 2005. This release includes several updates, such as improved wireless network alerts for printer and label status. If your printer supports this latest version of Zebra Programming Language (ZPL®) firmware, you’ll be able to:
- render and print circles and diagonal lines
- reprint the last label with the touch of a button
- encode and print new Aztec bar codes
- utilize compression technology to print logos and graphics in record time
- automatically count the number of labels printed to trigger reminders for reloading supplies and reducing downtime
This firmware release will not include Zebra Basic Interpreter (ZBI) functionality. ZBI functionality will also be removed from any legacy firmware versions that are generally available. This change will not affect any of our customers who have not utilized ZBI functionality. If you still wish to utilize ZBI functionality, you should contact your authorized Zebra channel partner, who will help you identify third-party software or custom applications that will support your specific needs. We hope that this new firmware release results in increased efficiency and productivity for your business. As always, please contact us if you have any questions or comments.
